mcporter Skill: Configure, Authenticate, Call & Inspect MCP Servers

OpenClaw's official MCP client skill. Uses the mcporter CLI to list servers, inspect tool schemas, and call tools directly over HTTP or stdio — one command into any MCP ecosystem.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is becoming the de facto standard for wiring tools into AI — but remembering how each server is configured, what tools it exposes, and how to call them is a real tax. OpenClaw's official mcporter Skill collapses that into one CLI: list servers, inspect tool schemas, call tools directly — HTTP or stdio, one command.

Core capabilities: full MCP lifecycle management

  • List & inspect: mcporter list shows configured servers; mcporter list <server> --schema shows a server's tools and their parameter definitions

  • Direct calls: mcporter call <server.tool> key=value invokes a tool in one line; function syntax, full URLs, and stdio are all supported

  • Config & auth: manages server connection config and authentication for external services

  • Two transports: HTTP for remote servers, stdio for local processes (e.g. --stdio "bun run ./server.ts")

How it works: the restraint of one-line commands

The skill's command design deliberately stays readable in a single line: selector syntax like mcporter call linear.list_issues team=ENG limit:5 lets both agents and human eyes quickly understand what is being called; complex parameters use function syntax like mcporter call "linear.create_issue(title: \"Bug\")" for structured data. Underneath is the standard MCP protocol, so any MCP-compliant server (HTTP or stdio) plugs in — no vendor lock-in.

Typical use cases

  • Tool integration: attach internal services (ticketing, databases, docs) to agents as MCP servers, managed in one place

  • Quick debugging: while developing an MCP server, call its tools directly with mcporter to verify behavior without writing a full client

  • Cross-service calls: the same command style across many MCP servers, with near-zero switching cost

How to use & download

OpenClaw users: install mcporter first (npm install -g mcporter or per mcporter.dev), then trigger in natural language. See OpenClaw docs.

Other agent users: mcporter is a standalone open-source CLI, callable directly by any agent or script. Source: OpenClaw GitHub repo and mcporter.dev.
